Veronica Hazelhoff (1984)

Veronica Paula Maria Hazelhoff-Franken (born February 22, 1947 in Groenekan, De Bilt municipality , Utrecht province, † July 1, 2009 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch author for children and young people .

Life

Hazelhoff grew up with books, her father was a publishing representative for Het Spectrum and started writing early. She left school at the age of 16 and studied graphic design at an art academy. In 1980 she published her first story in Taptoe magazine , and a year later her book Nou moe! (German as a human, mom! ), the first part of the trilogy with “daughter stories” about the heroine Maartje. Two of the three parts were awarded. After that, she concentrated on writing about young people in search of their identity. Due to her productivity and the quality of her youth novels , plays and radio plays , Hazelhoff became one of the most famous authors of children's books in the Netherlands. Many of her works have also been translated into German. A rheumatic illness made writing more and more difficult for her. In her last book Bezoek van Mister P , whose main character also suffers from rheumatism, she writes openly about this disease. She died on July 1, 2009 at the age of 62 in a Utrecht hospital.
