Het Spectrum

Het Spectrum ( German  "Das Spektrum" ) is a Dutch book publisher. It was founded in 1935 by the two booksellers PH Bogaard and AH Bloemsma. Originally with a progressive Catholic self-image (an example of this is the author Gabriël Smit , who was associated with the publisher for 25 years), over the years the publisher has developed into one of the largest Dutch book publishers with a wide range of books, which today includes prose, non-fiction, travel guides , Cookbooks and others. In the early 1950s, the “Prisma Pockets” brand was introduced to publish world literature in paperback format. Around 3,000 titles have appeared in this series so far. Today Prisma is a brand for language textbooks and dictionaries as well as corresponding learning software .

The most important and well-known product, however, is the Winkler Prins Encyclopedia, the most important Dutch-language of its kind. Once a printed reference work, it is now the foundation of the Dutch-language Encarta edition.

Since 1999, Het Spectrum has been part of the De Persgroep Nederland publishing group .
