Winkler Prins is the best known and most detailed printed encyclopedia in the Dutch-speaking world . She later appeared at Elsevier .

Its first edition appeared between 1870 and 1882 by the Amsterdam publisher Carel Leonhard Brinkman . The first author or editor was the Dutch pastor Anthony Winkler Prins , who made extensive use of the German Brockhaus encyclopedia . Probably the last (9th) edition on paper was published 1990-1993 in 26 volumes. Their digitized version, which was created in collaboration with Microsoft, was called Winkler Prins Encarta . After original plans for a tenth edition, the Spectrum publishing company announced in 2008 that it would no longer publish a printed edition. Since 2010, three online versions have been available under the name Grote Winkler Prins online , Junior Winkler Prins online and study Winkler Prins online .
