Clas Bjerkander

Clas Bjerkander (born September 23, 1735 in Bjerka socken near Skara , Sweden , † August 1, 1795 ) was a Swedish clergyman and naturalist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Bjerk. ".

Live and act

Bjerkander studied at Uppsala University from 1758 and then worked as a pastor. His scientific interests were mainly in meteorology , entomology and botany , especially mushrooms .

Together with Andreas Dahl and others he founded the Svenska Topographiska Sällskapet i Skara ("Swedish topographical society for Skara").

Dedication names

Both an animal and a mushroom species were named after Bjerkander:

  • Pyralis bjerkandriana (flour moth)
  • Bjerkandera adusta (Willd. Ex Fr.) P. Karst. (Burnt Porling or Smoked Porling)
