investment
Rheine train station is located southwest of the city center of Rheine . The city center itself is only a few minutes' walk away. The Ringstrasse, which leads around the city center of Rheine, is located directly in front of the exit of the train station.
A bus station for regional buses and a taxi stand are located next to the station forecourt. The station area has developed into a shopping and entertainment center in the urban area in recent years.
The reception building has a large entrance hall with a kiosk and a bakery. There are also three ticket machines and an electronic departure board in the main hall. In the side wing of the building there is an office of the federal police , the DB travel center and a bicycle parking garage with bicycle rental.
The station now has three central platforms with tracks 2/3, 4/5 and 8. Track 8 has been in operation again for passenger traffic since December 2015, so that the RE 7 can run from Rheine to Krefeld every hour and there are no complications with the Intercity direction Koblenz there. Since the beginning of July 2011, there have been new elevators for all platforms, making the station barrier-free .
Since April 2012 the station facility has been completely renovated. Among other things, the station concourse and the tunnel were redesigned and an entrance and exit on the west side were realized.
There is a DB Station & Service service office and the station mission on platform 4/5 .

As part of the modernization offensive 2 for local train stations in North Rhine-Westphalia, a large-scale renovation of the station was carried out by 2015. In addition to barrier-free access, a tunnel breakthrough on the west side of the city center was realized so that the station can be entered from both sides.
In addition, one of the two disused platform tracks was reactivated in the course of the work, so that instead of four there are now five platform tracks for passenger traffic. This has made it possible for the Rhein-Münsterland-Express (RE 7) to travel to and from Rheine every hour since the timetable change in December 2015, as it is now possible for the train to turn there without conflict with the Intercity. In return, the regional train RB 68, which was introduced in December 2008, was discontinued except for a few trains in the rush hour from Monday to Friday.
With the timetable change in December 2015, Westfalenbahn took over the regional express lines RE 15 and RE 60 from Deutsche Bahn, and the RE 7 has been operated by the British company National Express since then . Both operators are using completely new trains on the RE lines.
In local rail passenger transport , the Deutsche Bahn in Rheine only runs a few individual rounds of the regional train Ems-Bahn (RB 65) during rush hour from Monday to Friday . Due to a shortage of vehicles, Deutsche Bahn will be running these circuits with a class 111 electric locomotive and four n-cars until the end of 2017 . At the beginning of 2017, there were still three double-decker cars in operation , but they were needed elsewhere.
