Reckenfeld (Low German Riäkenfeld ) is a district of the city of Greven in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Around 23% of all residents of Greven live in Reckenfeld. Reckenfeld is located on the Münsterländer gravel belt , an ice age terrain formation .

history

Reckenfeld emerged from the " Hembergen melee depot " built during the First World War . The ammunition depot consisted of over 200 ammunition sheds, several administration buildings and some other facilities. The depot was connected to the Münster – Rheine state railway by a siding ; in the depot there were 22.6 kilometers of standard gauge tracks that led to the shed. Ammunition trains with melee weapons rolled in during the war. After the end of the war, large quantities of explosives were stored, some of which had to be destroyed in the depot. In accordance with the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the depot should be destroyed. The Reich authorities in Berlin did not act economically, but effectively: they sold the depot to an (probably) for this purpose founded Eisenhandelsgesellschaft Ost. After that, the new owner initiated the settlement. From the mid-1920s, the owners converted and expanded the former sheds into residential buildings. Paths and roads emerged from the rail routes. Many of the scales can still be recognized as such today; the loading ramps of the sheds were extended to house entrances or bay windows. When viewed from a bird's eye view, Reckenfeld's division into four larger residential units that still come from the individual depots A, B, C and D is striking. Reckenfeld has expanded considerably in the last few decades with additional residential areas, but the structure of a subdivided ammunition depot can still be seen.

Historical sculpture on the first roundabout in Reckenfeld. The sculpture depicts the housing estates A, B, C and D, which were built as individual depots of a melee depot built during the First World War - from the Reckenfeld.

In Reckenfeld, there has been a sculpture created by Dieter Heilers on the first built roundabout since June 2, 2007. This sculpture is closely linked to the history of Reckenfeld's origins.

Historical sculpture on the roundabout in the center of Reckenfeld. The sculpture is made of stainless steel and safety glass. The four glass panels show 80 cities / towns from which the first settlers came to Reckenfeld between 1919 and 1927.

On September 13, 2009, another sculpture was set up on another roundabout in the center of Reckenfeld, which also has a historical background.
