The Münsterland open-air theater in Greven-Reckenfeld is a medium-sized open - air theater with 720 seats, half of which are covered. It is located in a wooded area in the Greven district of Reckenfeld near Emsdetten and is owned by the Münsterländische Freilichtbühne Greven-Reckenfeld eV association. The open-air stage is used by amateur actors .

history

The association was founded in 1947 by Lothar Fabian. In the founding year, the amateur actor group played the play The Waldhaus in a hall in Reckenfeld. The following year the hall became too small and Puss In Boots was introduced in the courtyard. This gave rise to the idea of an open-air stage.

The first open-air theater was built in 1953 on a church site at the Marienfried House in Reckenfeld. It was inaugurated on July 5, 1953 with the play Krach um Jolanthe . Since the parish was supposed to use the square differently, those responsible looked for a new way of building an open-air theater. They found a place on the Leißing farm in Reckenfeld. There, on June 11, 1962, the new open-air theater was opened with the play The Merry Wives of Windsor .

In 1976 the amateur play group was registered in the register of associations as the Münsterland open-air theater Greven-Reckenfeld eV. Lothar Fabian, the founder and chairman of the association, died on January 16, 1989. The then 2nd chairman Paul Schulze-Temming-Hanhoff was elected 1st chairman and Klaus-Dieter Niepel 2nd chairman. While Paul Schulze-Temming-Hanhoff mainly took care of the administration, Klaus-Dieter Niepel was involved in gaming operations. 1995 Klaus-Dieter Niepel took over the chairmanship. The stage was completely rebuilt for the 50th anniversary. In the same year, the club bought today's stage area. With Anatevka a musical was performed for the first time , which was followed by other musicals. But also time-critical plays, comedies, crime novels, fairy tales and children's plays are on the program. Since 1984 the association has also been active in the winter months, when he performs his pieces in various cities.

In 2007 the association had almost 600 members, 270 of whom actively participate in the events. The active participants are supported in all areas of theater work through training. Around 15,000 spectators came to the performance in 2007.

In 2008, Klaus Dieter Niepel gave up the office of 1st chairman and Viola Niepel was his successor. A challenge for the association was the redesign of the entrance area for the spectators and the new building of the office. With the end of the summer season 2011, the construction work was completed. In 2015 Heinz Neumann became the new 1st chairman while Patric Sohrt took over the 2nd chairmanship.
