action
Winegrower Peter Vierköttel and his friend, the gardener Jupp Spriestersbach, often and gladly refer to the wine made from Vierköttel's vineyards, which Vierköttel's wife Anna does not like to see because she is responsible for the finances of the household. Anna keeps her husband just as short about money as Jupp's sister-in-law Camilla keeps her brother-in-law. Anna also worries that her husband is setting a bad example for their son Bartel. She would therefore very much appreciate it if her son were to marry Bees, Jupp's daughter. But she has already fallen in love with the young gardener Reinhold Bock.
Freely available money is very important to the quadruped, kept short by his wife, and so he forges a plan with his friend Jupp. This is supposed to appear to buy his best vineyard from him. Jupp borrows the money from his sister-in-law Camilla. Shortly afterwards, however, he is uncomfortable with the whole matter, so that he no longer wants to close the deal. Peter's son Bartel, who is sorry for the terse father, speaks to his mother. Anna then believes her husband needs money as a dowry for an illegitimate daughter. She shows understanding for her husband's misstep, who she believes was before marriage, and gives him 2,000 marks.
Anna thinks that she has recognized her husband's illegitimate daughter in the new waitress Lore. Little does she know that her son Bartel has fallen in love with Lore. Since the mother believes Lore is his half-sister, this is a difficult situation for Bartel. When Lore finds out about this, she gets her mother Kättchen Schmitz, who recognizes the father of her illegitimate child in the mayor of Gerhard Schlünkes. Then everything works out for the best: Bartel gets his lore, Bock his little bee and Camilla also finds the right man in Assessor Heinrich Fitze.
