Werner Stock

Werner Bruno Wilhelm Hermann Stock (born October 20, 1903 in Sangerhausen , † April 30, 1972 in Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

Until the mid-twenties, Stock studied six semesters of German , philosophy and theater studies . After graduating, he went to Stuttgart to join the Württemberg Volksbühne . There he made his debut in The Merchant of Venice .

In 1927 he went to the Staatstheater Kassel, in 1932 he got an engagement at the German Art Theater in Berlin. In the following years, until the end of the war, Stock worked at various Berlin theaters such as the Schillertheater and the Schauspielhaus am Gendarmeriemarkt.

He came to film in the early 1930s, where the slender actor starred in a variety of supporting roles in the years to come. After the war Werner Stock successfully continued his film career, especially in the 1950s he played again in well-known productions.

In 1946 Stock was appointed artistic director at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin . There he also worked as a theater director and took on numerous smaller and larger roles such as Zettel in A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Mohr in The Fiesco Conspiracy in Genoa . In 1948 he played the Korth in Franz Molnar's play in the castle , which was given on the occasion of Molnar's 70th birthday in the Small Theater in Schwerin. At his side played the young Gisela May , who is at the beginning of her world career , in the role of Annie. His last major theater role was that of Nagg in Samuel Beckett's Endgame .

He was buried in the Dahlem cemetery.
