Freddy and the Melody of the Night is a German feature film directed by Wolfgang Schleif from 1960.

action

Freddy works as a taxi driver in West Berlin at night . He brings a woman to the airport and accepts two men as new customers. It's about Willi Bremer and Karl Bachmann, who attacked a wage money truck that day and seriously injured the security guard. However, they did not get the money because the security guard had a gun with him and was able to put them both to flight. Willi and Karl want to flee to Düsseldorf that night , but they still need 50 DM for the tickets. The flight is supposed to leave in a few hours. You go with Freddy, who stops during the journey and helps out a colleague who has broken down in the car with his last 50 DM for fuel. Both get out and think of a new plan for how they could get money.

Freddy does a few trips and repeatedly meets the student Inge, who also earns money as a flower girl and turns up in various nightclubs. Freddy, on the other hand, has a passenger in director Wendlandt who prefers to visit every club in town in one evening. Freddy stops at Frau Bremer's sausage stand, where he meets Inge and his colleague Paul Kalinke. He's almost finished and Freddy finds him a couple who want to be brought to Wedding, where Paul also lives. So his load would end right at his front door. However, Paul does not stop after the last load, but lets Willi and Karl persuade him to drive both to more remote areas. When they can be safe from spectators, both men ambush Paul while driving, take his fare and leave the bleeding man in the car. Paul is discovered by the police a little later and taken to a hospital.

Freddy received a pistol magazine from Wendlandt, which he found on the back seat of the taxi. Karl had lost it in the car. Freddy and Inge later bring Wendtlandt home and attend Freddy's boss's engagement party. Willi and Karl are already on the taxi, knowing that the magazine could lure the police on their trail. An attempt to murder Freddy fails.

On the drive home from their hen party, Freddy and Inge hear about the attack on Paul on the car radio. Freddy blames himself for arranging the last load to Wedding. Freddy and Inge drive to the police, where Freddy delivers the magazine and describes the possible perpetrators. Then they go to Inge, who lives with Mrs. Bremer as a sublet. Inge and he talk in Frau Bremer's apartment and Freddy doesn't know that Willi is Frau Bremer's son. Inge, in turn, knows Willi, but doesn't know that he is one of the wanted perpetrators. When Freddy says goodbye to Inge, he sees Will and Karl across the street. They both disappear into a bar and Freddy fetches Inge who is supposed to keep an eye on them. She recognizes Willi and doesn't stop either of them as they flee. Freddy, on the other hand, only feels sorry for Frau Bremer, who has a heart condition. He alerts the police and then takes up the pursuit of the two perpetrators.

Inge finally helps the police to describe Freddy's car and that of the perpetrators, so that a wanted man can be made. This ends at a freight yard. Willi is caught by a train while fleeing over the tracks and killed. Karl can be arrested. Mrs. Bremer, who always believed that she knew her spoiled son, is shocked.

A little later Inge and Freddy go for a walk. A policeman stops by her side and tells Freddy that Paul is already better. Freddy is relieved and goes away with Inge.
