Kunibert Gensichen (born June 26, 1907 in Rittel , West Prussia , † June 26, 1991 ) was a German actor and theater director .

biography

After graduating from the Fichtegymnasium in Berlin, Gensichen first began studying music at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin and finally took acting training at the Max Reinhardt School there from 1929 to 1931 . In 1931 he made his stage debut as Franz Moor in the newly opened Naturtheater Friedrichshagen .

This was followed by theater engagements in Görlitz, Baden-Baden, at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich, in Berlin, Potsdam, Strasbourg, Vienna, Stuttgart, Darmstadt and Kassel. From 1940 Gensichen also took over the direction of stage productions. He embodied numerous classic stage roles such as Mortimer from Schiller's "Maria Stuart" (Munich 1936), Büchner's " Woyzeck " (Stuttgart 1945), the fool from Shakespeare's "King Lear" (Darmstadt 1951) or Josef K. from Kafka's "Schloss" (Kassel, early 1950s).

Since 1937 Gensichen also worked in film productions. He played the conductor in the Joe Stöckel comedy Love Doesn't Go Far , Lord Francis Douglas in Luis Trenker's Der Berg ruft , the public prosecutor in Werner Klingler's drama From the diary of a gynecologist and appeared in productions of the most varied of genres, such as in William Dieterle's science fiction two-part Mistress of the World , in the crime film Freddy and the Melody of the Night (with Freddy Quinn in the title role), in literary adaptations such as The Marriage of Mr Mississippi according to Friedrich Dürrenmatt , in war dramas such as Jürgen Roland's The Transport , but also in National Socialist propaganda film The Rothschilds based on Mirko Jelusich .
