Harry Engel (* as Harry von Gerbott April 7, 1936 in Dresden , † March 30, 1989 in Berlin ) was a German actor and TV director .

Live and act

Engel had taken private acting lessons and made his theater debut at the age of 17 while still studying. His stage stations in the GDR were Potsdam and Meißen .

As early as 1955 he made his debut in front of the camera with a small page role in the film portrait from the time of the Peasant Wars Thomas Müntzer . As a result, at the end of the following year he was given the central role of the petty criminal Karl-Heinz in the realistic East Berlin time picture Berlin - corner of Schönhauser… . Since then, the gaunt Dresden man with the narrow face has initially been committed to youngsters, small crooks and weird types of all kinds, later also in the Federal Republic of Germany film and television, where he has worked since his West German debut in Wanted Murderer X in 1958.

One of Engel's best-known criminal roles was that of the former racing driver George Slowfoot in the three-part television crime thriller The Gentlemen ask to pay for a veritable street sweeper in Federal Republican households in 1966 . He also appeared in three episodes of the ZDF crime series Der Kommissar - there again occupied as a suspect on duty or as a disreputable to criminal demi-world existence - for example in the episode Grau-Roter Morgen (1971) about a drug addict daughter from good Home whose murder her mother tries to investigate on her own.

At times, in the late 60s, early 70s, Harry Angel also appeared as a show director in appearance and staged, among other issues, of the ZDF - Star Parade . In the last years of his life it became increasingly quiet about angels.
