Freddy under Strange Stars is a German music film by Wolfgang Schleif from 1959 . It is the sequel to the film Freddy, the Guitar and the Sea .
action
Freddy inherited a piece of land and a house in Canada from his uncle. In Hamburg he went on board for Canada and the orphan boy Stefan, whom he met there, smuggled himself on board as a stowaway. In Canada, on the other hand, Stefan is now not allowed to enter because he has no papers. He bypasses the passport control with a trick and later drives with Freddy by boat to their property. On the way there they meet the young Manuela O'Brien, who turns out to be the daughter of the property neighbor Henry O'Brien. Manuela is amused that Freddy and Stefan want to build a ranch, especially since their house turns out to be a dilapidated wooden hut without a roof, which was new 30 years ago. Manuela lives on a large ranch with numerous employees. However, her father does not tell her that he is facing ruin. He once took out a loan of $ 100,000 for the construction, but is now supposed to repay the money. Because he made a mistake, he can't pay. There is a threat of a foreclosure auction. It is all the more convenient for him that after the death of neighbor Ullmann, his nephew now wants to cultivate the property. Henry knows that there are large copper deposits under the neighboring property. He hopes to be able to buy the property from Freddy cheaply in order to pay off his debts with the proceeds of the copper sale. Freddy, however, wants to cultivate the property for a few years and maybe sell it when he no longer feels like living in the Canadian wilderness. Henry hires his henchman Ted to take Freddy's lust for life in Canada.
Ted first has a tree sawed that is supposed to fall on the wooden house, but instead hits Freddy and Stefan's pitched tent. Later, Ted and his men try to provoke a fight by making Freddy drunk, but the plan fails because Freddy does not drink alcohol. The other men are also inhibited because they came to the wooden house when Freddy was just singing a song. After all, you would much rather sing with him. Nevertheless, Ted doesn't shy away from kidnapping Stefan and leaving him on an island in the river. Freddy can save Stefan however. Henry has had enough of Ted's bungling attempts and is now taking matters into his own hands. He persuades his daughter to make Freddy beautiful eyes. He's still thinking of his Susi, whom he left behind in Hamburg, but is swarmed by the women in the area. Not only Manuela seeks his closeness. Freddy's other neighbor Miller also has four daughters, of whom Maud and Ellen are in love with Freddy. Freddy is torn between the women and only reconsiders when he receives mail from Susi. He still likes going to Manuela's birthday party with Stefan. When shooting, he wins a knife, which Ted secretly steals from him. At the party, Stefan overhears Henry reminding Manuela once again that he absolutely needs the copper deposits on Freddy's property and that she must therefore ensnare him. Stefan leaves before he can hear Manuela refusing to continue playing the game. On the way home, Stefan tells Freddy what he has heard, and he is disappointed.
Henry, meanwhile, is on the verge of bankruptcy. He did not meet the bank's deadlines, so the bank will now take further steps. Ted secretly reads a corresponding letter from the bank. He's been after Manuela for some time and offers Henry to take her as his wife. He has saved money so that Manuela will be better off with him than with Henry. Henry, however, laughs at him and sends him off. A little later, Freddy sees clouds of smoke in the distance. Henry's ranch is on fire and Freddy arrives just in time to save Henry caught in the flames. At the source of the fire, the investigators find a gasoline can and Freddy's knife. Before he can be seriously suspected, Ted is identified as the perpetrator. Henry later visits Freddy and honestly tells him why he is interested in Freddy's property. Freddy, however, does not want to sell because he wants to live and work in peace on his property and has no plans to suddenly become an industrialist. Henry accepts Freddy's decision, even if it means his ruin. Shortly thereafter, a policeman appears and asks for Stefan's papers. Since Stefan doesn't have one, he will be expelled. Without further ado, Freddy decides to come back to Hamburg with Stefan. He's selling his land to Henry after all. Many sad women remain behind in Canada.

Freddy under Strange Stars was filmed under the working title Freddy and the Song of Longing . The costumes were created by Eva Maria Schröder , the film structures were created by Gabriel Pellon and Peter Röhrig . The film premiered in several German cities on December 17, 1959 and became the best-grossing German film of 1960. In 2007, the film was released on DVD.
Freddy Quinn sings the songs You must forget everything in the film , Under Strange Stars and Guitar Playing Joe . Hannelore Elsner made her screen debut in Freddy Under Strange Stars .
criticism
The film service found that Freddy under strange stars was “no less shallow and kitschy” than the first part, Freddy, the guitar and the sea . Cinema called the film "one of the shreds the audience loved".
Awards
In 1961 , Freddy was awarded the Bambi for the “best box office film in German” .
