Your 106th birthday (alternatively: The Pride of the Family ) is a German film from 1958 by the director Günther Lüders . It is an adaptation of the play Mamouret by Jean Sarment .

action

The widow Cäcilie ( Margarete Haagen ) is the head of the Burger family dynasty. It is about to celebrate its 106th birthday, which is to be celebrated on a grand scale and in the presence of the Minister of Education and the press. The celebration is supposed to demonstrate a unity of the extended family in front of the public, but actually everyone hates everyone and everyone is only interested in the money that has been in the family for years, because people only marry among themselves. The young Josefine Burger, who falls in love with a ringmaster, is about to be disinherited. To prevent the latter and to see Josefine happy, Cäcilie threatens her family to tell the press present about her affairs with various men and the resulting illegitimate children.

Reviews

“An old lady uses her birthday to reveal revelations about her life, which pose serious problems for the bigoted and narrow-minded relatives, but cement the love happiness of her great-granddaughter. Disrespectful farce that calls the "ideal" family world into question with a somewhat homely cynicism. "
