Friedrich Ettel (born June 8, 1890 in Zurich , † March 12, 1941 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a Swiss actor .

Life

Friedrich Ettel finished his school days at the age of 17 and initially trundled across the villages of East Prussia , Mecklenburg and Thuringia . He started his first major permanent engagement in 1908 in Olsztyn in East Prussia . In the 1909/10 season he appeared in Wilhelmshaven , in 1910 he went to the Munich Volkstheater. In 1911 Ettel moved to the Deutsches Theater in St. Petersburg , before the meanwhile naturalized German was drafted into the military (service in Gießen ) the following year .

In the 1913/14 season, Friedrich Ettel made a commitment to Plauen , but a year later, when the First World War broke out, Ettel returned to arms. Already released in 1915, he worked at the Dortmund City Theater until 1920 . From 1920 to 1927 Ettel appeared at the Frankfurt Schauspielhaus.

After two seasons at the Städtische Bühnen in Essen (1927-1929), where he first made a name for himself with leading roles ( Danton , Shylock , Mephisto ), Ettel followed in 1929 an engagement at the Barnowsky-Bühnen in Berlin.

Under Max Reinhardt's directorship or under his and Gustaf Gründgens ', Heinz Hilpert and Hans Deppe directors, Ettel received a number of more or less important supporting roles at the Deutsches Theater from 1930 to 1932 , including in the productions Der Kaiser von Amerika , Der Streit um Sergeant Grischa , 1914 , A Midsummer Night's Dream , Captain von Köpenick and customer service . His last engagement shortly before his death took him to the Theater am Nollendorfplatz .

Immediately after his arrival in Berlin, at the end of the silent film era, cinema gained importance in Friedrich Ettel's life. As before, he led a typical small actor existence on the stage.
