Hämelerwald ( Low German Hämlerweohle ) is a district of the city of Lehrte in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony .

geography

Hämelerwald lies between the forest areas Hämeler Wald and Hain on the Hanover – Braunschweig – Berlin railway line and the BAB 2 .

history

The eponymous Hämeler forest near the place

The settlement of Hämelerwald emerged in 1848 from a stop that was formed during the construction of the Minden - Magdeburg railway line . At the height of the present-day location, the railway administration built four houses for their employees, who worked as railway foremen, switchmen and gatekeepers. The owner of the Adolphshof estate , 2.5 km south of the route, applied for a stop so that he could transport his products away by rail. The stop was refused because there was no residential building in this area. Only with the construction of an inn (today the Schaper Inn) in 1848 for foresters, hunters and forest workers from the nearby Hämeler Forest came a train station, which was soon joined by other houses.

The municipality of Hämelerwald was officially founded on October 10, 1864 under the name “Hämelerwald stop” after a number of residential buildings had stood at this point for over 20 years. The new place was named after the neighboring forest area Hämeler Wald .

When the church was founded in 1864, there were nine houses with 22 residents. The new place was on a wasteland, the common land of neighboring Sievershausen . Already 20 years after the village was founded, almost 500 people lived in the new settlement. Many worked as farmers, railroad workers or workers. There were three brick factories in the area because of the abundant clay deposits . Further branches of business were a concentrate factory, sawmills and a cheese factory.

Hämelerwald was formerly one of the youngest villages in the Peine district , to which it belonged as an independent municipality from October 10, 1864 to March 1, 1974. Due to the regional reform in Lower Saxony , Hämelerwald was assigned to the former district of Hanover as a district of the city of Lehrte .

Coat of arms of Hämelerwald
Blazon : "On a silver background a black anvil , behind it two crossed, green , inclined barley ears , above three connected, green oak leaves ."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The municipality of Hämelerwald is a former forest settlement that was created around 1848. The main character of the municipality is determined by the surrounding forest, on the foothills of which there are two larger agricultural properties belonging to the municipality. There are also some industrial plants due to the good traffic situation. The latter are to be symbolized by the anvil in the coat of arms, while the two former manors "Schierke" and " Adolfshof ", which were attached to the community around 1955, have been taken into account by the two ears of corn. The oak leaves hovering over these symbols are intended to characterize the protective proximity of the forest and the history of the community.
