The Meppel Station is a separation station in the Dutch town of Meppel . It was opened on October 1, 1867 with the completion of the Zwolle – Meppel railway line. The station is an intercity station , which is also served by regional trains.

history

In 1868 the connection with Meppel – Heerenveen - Leeuwarden was added, and in 1870 the Meppel – Groningen railway line was opened. This connected the province of Drenthe with the provinces of Groningen and Friesland . Since then, the two lines have been the most important connecting lines with the north of the Netherlands. Not much has been structurally changed at the station, most of it is still in its original state.

The railway line (Zwolle–) Meppel– Groningen and Leeuwarden was electrified in 1952.

Station building

The station building is a standard construction of the Dutch railways. In addition to Meppel, this type can also be found in Zuidbroek (1865).

Investments

The station has five ticket machines , a kiosk , a flower shop, a bicycle shop, and a large unguarded bicycle parking area , which opened in April 2011. The platforms are covered and equipped with shelters . There is a bus station right next to the train station .
