Ouder-Amstel ( listen ? / I ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland . It has 13,950 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019). It consists of the villages Ouderkerk aan de Amstel ( 52 ° 18 ′  N , 4 ° 54 ′  E ) and Duivendrecht ( 52 ° 20 ′  N , 4 ° 56 ′  E ) and the farmers Waver. Audio file / audio sample

Location and economy

The municipality is located immediately southeast of Amsterdam . The two villages are in the process of transforming themselves from farming villages to suburbs of the Dutch capital.

The majority of residents are commuters who travel to Amsterdam for work every day. The only branch of the economy still existing in the municipality is the livestock industry.

Duivendrecht has a train station on the lines from Amsterdam to Arnhem (German border) and from Weesp to Leiden . It is designed as a tower station and also a stop on the Amsterdam Metro . It opened in 1993.

Attractions

In both villages there are some houses and churches from the 17th century . Southeast of the village Ouderkerk aan de Amstel is the recreation area Ouderkerkerplas .
