Hollands Kroon is a West Frisian municipality in the northwest of the Netherlands in the province of North Holland , which was created on January 1, 2012 from the merger of the municipalities Anna Paulowna , Niedorp , Wieringen and Wieringermeer . The municipality extends over an area of ​​around 662 km². The population was 47,844 on January 31, 2019.

geography

The municipality is located at the tip of North Holland. The east side of the municipality borders on the IJsselmeer , in the northeast the municipal border closes on the Waddenzee . The Groetkanaal runs through the entire municipality and finally flows into the Amstelmeer at Anna Paulowna .

history

The name Amstelmeer was originally intended for the merged community . On April 27, 2010, the name Hollands Kroon was announced as a result of a competition with public participation . On September 13, 2011, the First Chamber approved the merger. The new council was elected on November 23, 2011.
