Kujō Yoshitsune ( Japanese 九 条 良 経 ; * 1169 ; † April 16, 1206 ), also Fujiwara no Yoshitsune ( 藤原 良 経 ) or Gokyōgoku Yoshitsune ( 後 京 極 良 経 ), was a Japanese politician, poet and calligrapher.

He was the son of Grand Chancellor Kujō Kanezane (Fujiwara no Kanezane) and a daughter of Fujiwara no Sueyuki . Since his older brother Yoshimichi ( 良 通 ) died early in 1188, Yoshitsune became the ancestor of the Kujō family founded by his father . So he was appointed Gon-Chūnagon and Gon-Dainagon the following year. In 1190 he married a daughter Fujiwara no Yoshiyasu (Ichijō Yoshiyasu) and thus became an ally of the Minamoto .

In 1195 he became Chancellor of the Interior ( Naidaijin ), in 1199 Chancellor on the left ( Sadaijin ) and then rose in 1204 to Grand Chancellor ( Daijō Daijin ). From 1202 he was also the regent ( Sesshō ) of the underage emperor Tsuchimikado . He died in 1206 at the age of only 38.

Yoshitsune was also a recognized poet and calligrapher .

His poetry collection Akishino gessei shū ( 秋 篠月清 集 ) was created around 1204 and contains more than 1,600 poems. More than 300 other poems have been published in various imperial collections, such as the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu , the Shinchokusen-wakashū and the Shinkokin-wakashū . For the latter, which contains 79 of his poems, he also wrote the foreword in 1205.

The calligraphy style Gokyōgoku-ryū ( 後 京 極 流 ) goes back to Yoshitsune , which is based on the style Hosshōji -ryū ( 性 寺 寺 流 ).
