Kōyū Ohara ( Japanese 小 原 宏裕 , Ohara Kōyū ; † February 20, 2004 ) was a Japanese film director and screenwriter who was popular with the general public mainly through his novel porn , Ori no naka no yōsei (Fairy in a Cage, 1977) and the Momojiri musume trilogy (Pink Tush Girl, 1978-1980), became known. He is one of the most versatile and productive filmmakers of the Japanese Nikkatsu . In 1979 alone he directed nine productions.

Life and career

Kōyū Ohara, whose grandfather already worked as a filmmaker at Nikkatsu, first took up a law degree at Keiō University and also worked as a secretary for a member of the Japanese House of Representatives . He eventually neglected the law exam in favor of an entrance exam at Shōchiku , which failed. Another attempt finally led him to Nikkatsu, where he worked as an assistant director a. a. worked for Koreyoshi Kurahara .

When Nikkatsu specialized almost exclusively in lucrative adult films, so-called Pink Eiga , in the early 1970s , Ohara - like many of his colleagues - was not enthusiastic. However, unlike many other filmmakers, he stayed with the studio in the hope of being able to direct it himself soon. In 1971 he assisted director Shōgorō Nishimura at Danchizuma hirusagari no jōji , Nikkatsu's first Pink-Eiga production of the in-house novel and porn series. A year later he made his directorial debut with Jōen Oshichi no koiuta . After the great success of Joshidaisei: Sex hoteishiki (1973), Ohara became one of Nikkatsu's busiest directors, for whom he worked exclusively until the mid-1980s. He made 42 films, including four of the studio's most commercially successful films.

In 1984 Ohara left Nikkatsu and subsequently worked as a director for music videos ; In 1988 he finally withdrew from the film business.
