Drechtland ( listen ? / I ) ( West Frisian Drechtland ) is a municipality in the province of North Holland in the West Frisian region of the Netherlands . It was created in 1978, initially under the name Bangert , from the merger of the municipalities of Hoogkarspel and Westwoud and the district of Oosterblokker of the municipality of Blokker. In the course of 1979 the community received its current name. On January 1, 2006, it merged with the municipality of Venhuizen . Audio file / audio sample

geography

Drechtland borders the municipality of Hoorn in the west, the municipality of Stede Broec in the east and the Markermeer in the south . The community has an area of ​​around 81 km², of which 22 km² are water.

Partner communities

Drechtland is partnered with the municipality of Bardowick in Lower Saxony . The joint municipality of Bardowick had been partnered with Venheuizen since 1970, but Venhuizen was merged with Drechtland in 2006.
