Koggenland ( West Frisian Koggeland ) is a municipality in the West Friesland region in the Dutch province of North Holland .
The community was created on January 1, 2007 through the merger of the previous communities Obdam and Wester-Koggenland . In 2006 it was decided to give the new parish its current name. The community name is reminiscent of the historical cog from the Middle Ages . Such a cog (or cog) usually consisted of four to five villages and was a legal district. Because the previous municipality of Noorder-Koggenland had to give up its independence on the same day, the name Koggenland could be determined for the current new municipality.
