Obdam ( ) is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland , which lies at an altitude of about 0 m NAP . On January 1, 2007, it was merged with Wester-Koggenland to form the new municipality of Koggenland .
It is located about 35 km north of Amsterdam on the railway line between Alkmaar a good 10 km west and Hoorn 9 km east; the next motorways A7 and A9 are just as far away.
The community is still predominantly agricultural, although most of the residents are now of course employed in industry and in the service sector of the neighboring cities.
Tourism has so far hardly played an economic role, not least because there are no significant sights in the municipality.
