Herman van der Haar

Herman van der Haar , baptismal name Hermanus Petrus van der Haar (* December 2, 1867 in Avenhorn, Wester-Koggenland , today Koggenland , province of North Holland ; † August 18, 1938 in Wassenaar , province of South Holland ), was a Dutch genre , interior , Landscape and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Van der Haar, son of the doctor Petrus van der Haar and his wife Elisabeth Johanna Jordens, came to the house of his uncle, the notary Gerard Jordens in Enschede , where he trained with the painter and photographer Lambertus Johannes Bruna (1822–1906) received. From 1889 to 1893 he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There he was a student of Heinrich Lauenstein , Hugo Crola , Adolf Schill and Johann Peter Theodor Janssen . Van der Haar worked in The Hague , Haaksbergen , Utrecht , Kortenhoef , Blaricum , Laren , Veere and Wassenaar in the Netherlands, where he was a member of the artists' associations Arti et Amicitiae and Vereeniging Haagsche Kunstkring . In 1898 he married Margarethe Bresina in Utrecht. The couple had three children. In the years 1898 and 1900 he sent exhibitions at the Munich Glass Palace . He traveled to Italy and Poland, where he lived on the Groß Lenschetz ( Łężce ) estate near Posen . He also traveled through Germany and lived with his family in Berlin for a while in the 1920s . Van der Haar was the teacher of Josephine Phaff-Faber (1891–1984) and Dolf van der Haar (1899–1973).
