Heiloo ( ) is a village in the north-west of the Netherlands in the province of North Holland . The community has 23,498 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019) on an area of 19.01 km² .
The village, whose name means "holy forest", is located about 4 kilometers east of the seaside resort Egmond aan Zee , and 2.5 km south of Alkmaar. It is home to a lot of small businesses, but many of the residents are commuters who work in Alkmaar or at the blast furnace in Velsen . As in the neighboring village of Limmen , tulips and other flower bulbs are grown. There is a forest area between Heiloo and Alkmaar. There are some hotels and campsites. In the center of the village there is a medieval white church, next to it a fountain, which is said to have been created by a miracle around 719. The Holy Willibrord to one night here have been praying fervently to God, the next morning there was - the Legend by - this source. There is also a spring (Runxputte) 2 kilometers south of Heiloo, which was already considered sacred in pagan times. There is now the chapel "Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe ter Nood" ( German Our Lady in Need ), to which pilgrimages in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary take place several times a year .
The Heiloo train station is on the double-track line ( Amsterdam - Zaandam -) Uitgeest - Alkmaar - Heerhugowaard (- Den Helder ). There are no other tracks besides the continuous main tracks. It has an island platform with a roof. Alkmaar station to the north and Castricum station to the south are adjacent .

Hans Romeyn ( CDA ) has been acting mayor of the municipality since June 2005 . His colleagues include the alderman Fred Dellemijn ( Heiloo-2000 ), Rob Opdam ( VVD ), Elly Beens-Woudenberg (CDA) and the community secretary Guy Heemskerk .
