Cornelius Schilder

Cornelius Schilder (born September 19, 1941 in Westwoud , Drechterland parish , Netherlands ) is Bishop Emeritus of Ngong in Kenya .

Life

Cornelius Schilder, the seventh child from a family with eight children, joined the religious order of the Mission Society of St. Joseph von Mill Hill (MHM) and attended the seminary in Hoorn . He then studied philosophy at Mill Hill College in Roosendaal and in 1964 Catholic theology at Mill Hill College in London . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1968 in Westwoud and then taught at the seminary in Tilburg . In 1971 he went on a mission to Kenya and worked in the parishes of Kilgoris, Ilkerin and Lemek in the Narok Administrative District in the Rift Valley Province . In 1989 he became secretary of the Ngong Diocese. From 1991 to 1998 he worked as a priest in the parish of Tarasaa in the diocese of Garissa . In 1998 he was elected deputy representative of the Mill Hill Missionaries in East Africa, from 2000 their first representative.

In 2002, Cornelius Schilder was appointed by John Paul II to succeed Colin Cameron Davies as bishop of the diocese of Ngong - the so-called Maasai diocese in southern Kenya on the border with Tanzania . The episcopal ordination received his Giovanni Tonucci on January 25 of 2003.

As a member of the Kenyan Bishops' Conference, he was chairman of the finance commission.

On August 1, 2009, his resignation "for health reasons" by Pope Benedict XVI. accepted. A year and a half later, it became known that signs had been alleged to have sexually abused children ; the police were not notified.

In addition to Dutch , German , French and English , Cornelius Schilder also speaks Kiswahili and Maa .
