Venhuizen is a village in the municipality of Drechterland in the Dutch province of North Holland . The West Frisian town is located east of the city of Hoorn and west of the city of Enkhuizen , directly on the Markermeer . Towards the sea, the Zuiderdijk stretches along the village area, a dike that doubles as a road. In Venhuizen, 5,895 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) live on an area of ​​20.33 km² (of which 0.23 km² is water).

In the predominantly agricultural village there are a few tourist facilities such as the Zomerpark West-Frisia, a larger holiday home settlement, which is located just before Oosterleek directly on the dike. There are numerous small bays for swimming, just before Enkhuizen there is a slightly larger bay with an approx. 100 meter long sandy beach. There are campsites there and in Shellinghout.

Hem, Oosterleek, Schellinkhout and Wijdenes belong to the municipality.

Mayor of the place was the Chinese-Surinamese Roy Ho Ten Soeng until January 1, 2006 . He was the first non-Dutch mayor in the country.

Venhuizen lost its status as an independent municipality on January 1, 2006 and was incorporated into the municipality of Drechterland .
