The Gouda – Alphen aan den Rijn railway is a railway line between the cities of Gouda and Alphen aan den Rijn in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland . It runs through the Groene Hart landscape and has a length of 17.6 kilometers.

history

At the end of the 19th century, with the construction of the Haarlemmermeer railway lines, the first plans for a railway connection between Gouda, Boskoop and Alphen aan den Rijn were drawn up. The route was laid out in 1916. After the land along the planned route had been purchased in 1925, it was finally decided in 1928 to lay out the route. Due to the poor quality of the soil, construction lasted until 1934. In this phase, the Waddinxveen and Boskoop stations were built in addition to the Gouda and Alphen aan den Rijn stations. On October 7, 1934, the single-track line was put into operation. The electrification of the railway line was completed in 1956. A new stop on the territory of the municipality of Waddinxveen was opened with the Waddinxveen Noord station on June 3, 1973. Between 2003 and 2009 the Nederlandse Spoorwegen operated the route with trams from HTM Personenvervoer . Since the 2017 annual timetable, trains have been running on the route as part of the R-net . Boskoop Snijdelwijk station opened on December 10, 2017. Two months later, on February 12, 2018, the Waddinxveen Triangel station went into operation.
