Great hard
Groene Hart ( German Green Heart ) is a landscape in the Randstad ring of cities in the Dutch cities of Rotterdam , The Hague , Leiden , Haarlem , Amsterdam and Utrecht . The area is considered the largest region with a uniform landscape character in the Netherlands.
The area is relatively sparsely populated. Larger places are Zoetermeer , Alphen aan den Rijn , Gouda , Waddinxveen , Bodegraven and Woerden .
The area is intended to act as a counterbalance to the densely populated city ring, with agriculture, nature and local recreation being the primary parameters.
The Groene Hart is rich in water. The Langeraarse Plassen , Nieuwkoopse Plassen , Reeuwijkse Plassen and the Braassemermeer are located here . In addition, the Hollandse IJssel , the Oude Rijn , the Lek , the Aar and the Gouwe as well as some smaller rivers such as the Vlist , the Loet , the Rotte and the Meije flow here .
