List of train stations in the Netherlands |
The Hague Laan van NOI station (written out in Den Haag Laan van Nieuw Oost Indië ) is a through station operated by the Dutch railway company NS in the center of the Dutch city of The Hague . After Den Haag HS and Den Haag Centraal, it is the busiest station in the city. It is on the railway line from Rotterdam to Amsterdam ; this is one of the most important and busiest in the whole of the Netherlands. In addition, the Randstadrail , which is similar to a light rail, runs on two separate tracks at the station. The name of the station is derived from the street Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indië (NOI) running directly below .
history
The station is located on one of the oldest railway lines in the Netherlands. The part of the line between Leiden and The Hague was opened in 1843. The Nieuw Oosteinde station was on the intersection with the Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indië and was in operation from 1843 to 1864. A new station was opened on May 1, 1907 at the same location along the new route from Den Haag HS to Scheveningen . In 1908 the Hofpleinlijn between Den Haag HS and Rotterdam Hofplein, which also ran across the station, was opened. This line was the first electrified railway line in the Netherlands. The two new lines followed the Amsterdam – Rotterdam line between Den Haag HS and Laan van NOI, but had no platforms at the station. Trains between The Hague and Leiden did not stop at this station until May 15, 1931. The line to Scheveningen was closed in 1953 . In 1979 a new line to Zoetermeer was opened. Both the route to Rotterdam Hofplein and the route to Zoetermeer were converted to the Randstadrail metro operation in 2006 .
