List of train stations in the Netherlands |
The Station Zutphen is the largest station in the Dutch city of Zutphen . It is the central hub in urban public transport. National regional and long-distance trains run at the station. The station is frequented by 11,988 travelers every day.
history
After the station opened in 1865, Zutphen soon became an important hub for national and international train connections. The Dutch State Railways set up through express trains between Amsterdam - Arnhem and Hanover. These trains all stopped in Zutphen. At the beginning of 1900, however, new routes were opened, over which the express trains now run, and over time, Zutphen developed into a regional hub.
The first station building was destroyed in 1944 by an air raid on a German ammunition train standing in the station. The current building was given to the station in 1952. In 2007 the building was awarded the title of Rijksmonument .
