The Station Wijchen is a railway station in the village of Wijchen in the Dutch province of Gelderland . It was opened on June 4, 1881, at the same time as the Tilburg – Nijmegen railway was put into operation .
history
The first station building of the Helvoirt type was built by the NZOS railway company and opened in 1881. After the company was dissolved in 1894, the station was transferred to the area of responsibility of the state railway company NS . In 1973 the building was closed and in the same year it was replaced by a building by the architect Cees Douma .
Until 2011, the station consisted of an island platform , when an additional platform was built south of the existing platform due to the increasing number of passengers. The island platform was demolished in 2014 and replaced with a new building that has a turning system that was built as part of the Stadsregiorail project.
During renovation work in 2018, the south side of the station was renewed and a kiss-and-ride zone and a new bus stop were built. The construction work required costs of 9.6 million euros.
