The Tilburg – Nijmegen railway line , also known as Brabantse Lijn or Zuidooster spoorlijn , is a railway line between Tilburg and Nijmegen . The railway line is an important connection in the south of the Netherlands with a length of about 66 kilometers.

history

The line was built and opened by the Nederlandsche Zuid-Ooster Spoorweg-Maatschappij . On June 4, 1881, the company put the entire line into operation. In Nijmegen and 's-Hertogenbosch , the company shared the facilities of the Staatsspoorwegen ; in Tilburg there was a temporary train station until the line was connected to the Staatslijn E in 1882 . In the following year, Staatsspoorwegen took over management of the route.

In 1909 the section from Tilburg to 's-Hertogenbosch was expanded to two tracks, three years later the further line to Oss . The section from Wijchen to Nijmegen was double-tracked in 1929, the section over the Meuse at Ravenstein is still single-track today. The section between Tilburg and 's-Hertogenbosch was electrified on August 4, 1957, the section between' s-Hertogenbosch and Nijmegen followed on September 22, 1957.

The section between 's-Hertogenbosch and Oss is the only one approved for the maximum speed of 140 kilometers per hour. On the other sections of the route, it is 130 kilometers per hour. The route initially had 22 stations, but only ten of them are in operation today.

Train traffic

Currently, the Intercity trains from Zwolle to Roosendaal and the regional trains ( Sprinter ) from Dordrecht to Arnhem and from Wijchen to Zutphen are running on the route . All trains run every half hour. The Nijmegen Goffert station was opened on December 14, 2014 at route kilometer 63 and has been served by sprinter trains from Arnhem to `s-Hertogenbosch every half hour since then.
