The Station Harlingen is a railway station in the Dutch province of Friesland . The station was opened on October 27, 1863 on the Harlingen – Leeuwarden railway line. The line was put into operation by the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen . The section to Groningen was opened in 1866 and extended to Nieuweschans ( Reiderland ) on the Dutch-German border in 1868 .

The station building

Harlingen railway station is a standard station of the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen, built in the 1860s. Of the four existing SS derde class stations , three are on the Harlingen-Nieuweschans line: Harlingen (1863), Leeuwarden (1863) and Winschoten (1865). Most of the Harlingen train station is still in its original condition.

Dokkumer local railway

In 1904 a second railway line to the north was opened from Harlingen. This line was built by the Noord-Friesche Locaalspoorweg-Maatschappij (NFLS). The line connects Dokkum and Leeuwarden , among others . The connection with Harlingen was interrupted and torn off in 1938. There is another train station in Harlingen. Harlingen Haven is a small bus stop that connects to the boat to Terschelling and Vlieland .
