The Harlingen – Nieuwe Schans railway line , approved as Staatslijn B , is a railway connection between Harlingen and Nieuweschans (Bad Nieuweschans) via Leeuwarden and Groningen that was laid on August 18, 1860 by the state of the Netherlands . The line is not electrified.
history
The railway provided a connection between the port of Harlingen and the northern provincial capitals and Germany. The route was built in stages from west to east:
- October 27, 1863: Harlingen – Leeuwarden
- June 1, 1866: Leeuwarden – Groningen
- May 1, 1868: Groningen – Winschoten
- November 1, 1868: Winschoten – Nieuweschans
- November 26, 1867: Nieuweschans border
Railway stations and their buildings
The station buildings were usually built according to the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (SS) model plans. These were divided into five classes.
- Harlingen (type SS third class)
- Franeker (type SS fourth class)
- Dronrijp (type SS fifth class)
- Leeuwarden (type SS third class)
- Hardegarijp (type SS fifth grade)
- Veenwouden (Type SS fourth class)
- Buitenpost (type SS fourth class)

- Hoogezand-Sappemeer (type SS third class)
- Zuidbroek (type SS third class)
- Scheemda (type SS fourth class)
- Winschoten (type SS third class)
- Nieuwe Schans (type SS third class)
