The Groningen – Delfzijl railway is a line built by the Dutch state that has been connecting Groningen and Delfzijl since June 15, 1884 . The railway line is not electrified.

Railway stations and buildings

  • Groningen station , SS, a one-off design by Isaac Gosschalk
  • Groningen Noord station : first station (demolished in 1970), from 1974 viaduct station
  • Sauwerd: none (demolished 1975)
  • Bedum: none (demolished 1975)
  • Stedum: none (demolished 1973)
  • Loppersum: 1883, SS, building type Loppersum
  • Appingedam: none (burned down and broken off 1979)
  • Delfzijl West: none
  • Delfzijl station : 1883, type Sneek

The railway is operated by Arriva Personenvervoer Nederland . Two trains run on the line from Monday to Saturday between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Outside these times, only one train per hour. Freight trains also run on the route. Most of them have Oosterhorn as their end point.

The railway line is operated by GTW from Stadler Rail . Since summer 2007 they have replaced the former wadlopers .
