The Station Groningen Noord (also Noorderstation called) is a railway station in the northern Dutch town of Groningen , near the neighborhoods Selwerd and Tuinwijk .
history
In 1884 the Groningen – Delfzijl railway was opened. The Groningen Halte SS station was built on the line and was later renamed Groningen Noord . In 1893 the Groningen – Roodeschool railway was opened and the trains to Roodeschool now also stopped at the North Station. Both routes are now used by Arriva with railcars from Stadler Rail . From 1922 to 1938 and for a short time in 1940, the station was also used by trains on the Winsum – Zoutkamp line.
In order to make the districts in the northwest of the city more accessible from the city center, the station was relocated to a viaduct. The viaduct opened in 1974. Since then, the Noorderstationsstraat has passed under the station.
