The Castricum station is a through station in the town of Castricum in the Dutch province of Noord-Holland . The station, opened in 1867, is on the Den Helder – Amsterdam railway line and is frequented by 7,493 travelers every day (2018).

location

The station is located west of the center of Castricum. Stationsweg , one of the town's most important arteries, runs along the east side of the station . The North Holland dune reserve, a 5300 hectare nature reserve, extends to the west . The Huis van Hilde archeology center , which opened in 2015 and shows the historical development of Noord-Holland, is located southwest of the train station .

history

The opening of the Castricum station took place at the same time as the opening of the Alkmaar - Uitgeest section of the Staatslijn K on May 1, 1867. The first station building came from the architect Karel Hendrik van Brederode and was a fifth class building of the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen . In 1912 the station building received an extension on the right side. From January 30, 1914 to June 1938, the Castricum station was the starting point for the tram to Bakkum . While the means of transport functioned as a horse-drawn tram at the beginning , electric vehicles ran on the route from 1920. In 1969 the old station building was replaced by a new building based on a design by the architect Cees Douma .

future

In the future, the Castricum train station is to be rebuilt. The train station often also serves as the entrance to the dune area for bathers and should therefore become more accessible, spacious and comfortable. Protective roofs for passengers and passers-by are to be erected on both sides. In addition, the existing pedestrian tunnel is to be repaired. The inside of the tunnel is to be clad with new tiles and LED lighting. Three new elevators are to be built in the tunnel , which will ensure the accessibility of the station. In addition, new stairs are to be created on both the east and west sides. The central platform is to be equipped with new furniture and a kiosk. The project is carried out in collaboration between ProRail and the municipality of Castricum. The construction work began in April 2019 and should be completed in September 2020.

passenger traffic

Both regional and long-distance trains of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen stop at the station . The station is served by twelve Intercity trains and four Sprinter trains during rush hour. Vehicles of the VIRM and DDM series are used as intercity trains . The SGMm series operates regional transport.
