The Hoogeveen train station is a through station in the Dutch municipality of Hoogeveen in the province of Drenthe . It is located on the Meppel – Groningen railway line and is a stop for intercity trains.
history
The station was opened on May 1, 1870. The reception building originally built in 1868 according to plans by Karel Hendrik van Brederode was demolished in 1984 and replaced in the same year by a new building by Cees Douma .

For both the 2010 and 2011 timetables, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) planned to shorten the travel time of the Intercity to Gronigen by eliminating the stops in Meppel , Hoogeveen, Beilen and Haren . For this, the local train to Groningen should run more frequently. After protests by the municipal council, the province of Drenthe, the consumer organization Locov and the Second Chamber against the change, the NS decided not to implement the plan. After the opening of the Hanzelijn in 2012, the NS put the project into practice. The sprinter between Zwolle and Groningen was compressed to a half-hourly cycle, the number of IC stops was reduced to four per day.
