List of train stations in the Netherlands |
The Zevenaar Station is a train station at the Oberhausen-Arnhem railway in the Dutch town of Zevenaar , which is in the province of Gelderland is. The station has been the only station in Zevenaar since the Zevenaar GOLS station was closed in 1918. A second station has been included in regional planning for Zevenaar, namely the Zevenaar Poort station . In the past, Zevenaar was an important border station. Today, in addition to the regional train from Arnhem Centraal via Doetinchem to Winterswijk, the Rhein-IJssel-Express to Düsseldorf Central Station stops here .
On the Holland route it is the Dutch border station; the German is the Emmerich train station .
history
Zevenaar station was opened in 1856 at the same time as the extension of the Dutch line to Emmerich . In 1865 the Zevenaar – Kleve railway was opened. The third connection from Zevenaar, the local railway created by the Geldersch-Overijsselsche Lokaalspoorweg-Maatschappij (GOLS) on the Winterswijk – Zevenaar railway line , has its own station in Zevenaar (Zevenaar GOLS). Originally, Zevenaar was to be connected to a fourth railway line, but the extension of the Betuwelinie from Elst to Zevenaar was never realized.
In Zevenaar the Nederlandsche Rhijnspoorweg-Maatschappij (NRS) built a through station with border function. All international travelers had to pass a customs control in the train station with their luggage. In addition to the customs station, the station also had other entry and exit controls, two waiting rooms , a station bar , offices, toilets and three service apartments. In front of the station building there was also a water tower, which was used to fill up the kettle of the steam locomotives , as well as a turntable, a passenger car and a freight car shed.
After the mandatory cooperation between the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij (HSM) and the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (SS; this took over in 1890, the NRS) in 1917 the railway line Zevenaar-Winterswijk was also connected to the station, the station Zevenaar GOLS was consequently closed.
The station building was demolished in the early 1960s. As most of the customs matters took place at Arnhem Centraal station or on the train, you could limit yourself to a small accommodation. In 1962, the reception building that still exists today was opened. Initially, the building contained a hall, waiting rooms, ticket offices and a signal box. When the station was at its peak, around 150 customs officers and railway workers were working in Zevenaar.
In 2001 the Nederlandse Spoorwegen transferred the business to Syntus . The same passed the operation on to Arriva and Breng in 2012 .
