List of train stations in the Netherlands |
The Duiven Station is an intermediate station in the town of Duiven in the Dutch province of Gelderland . It is located on the Oberhausen – Arnhem railway line and was designed by the Dutch architect Cees Douma .
history
A train station in Duiven was opened for the first time at the same time as the Arnhem – Zevenaar section went into operation on February 15, 1856. The station building comprised some business premises of the operating company Nederlandsche Rhijnspoorweg-Maatschappij (NRS) and an apartment above. At the beginning, the station was frequented mainly by schoolchildren, farmers and gardeners who traveled to Arnhem for trade . With the boom in bus traffic in the 1920s , the number of passengers at Duiven station decreased rapidly. In 1936 the station was closed, which also affected the Groessen and Westervoort stations . The station building was destroyed in the penultimate year of World War II. When the Tweede Nota Ruimtelijke Ordening was established in 1967, the first plans for reopening arose. On May 31, 980, the new station, which had been designed by Cees Douma, opened. The new station consists of two platforms, each with a glass waiting room . In 2008 the station was furnished with new furniture, walls, floors and lighting. This made it one of four train stations in the Netherlands where the new corporate identity of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen was to be tested. At the station Duiven is also the first underground "Bike Machine" is ( English bikedispenser ) of the Netherlands, where bicycle rental system of the OV-fiets can be rented. On January 25, 2016, a public toilet was opened by the Gelderland Province Deputy , Conny Bieze. Previously, Duiven station was one of 21 stations in the province of Gelderland that did not yet have a toilet.
