The Westervoort station is the only station in the municipality of Westervoort in the Dutch province of Gelderland . It is located on the Oberhausen – Arnhem railway line and is the successor to a station that was closed in 1936. The town center, including branches of the Albert Heijn and Kruidvat retail chains , as well as the town hall of Westervoort are located on the south side of the station .
history
The first stop in the area of Westervoort was put into operation in 1856 at the same time as the opening of the Arnhem – Zevenaar section. However, it was closed again in 1936. As part of the Stadsregiorail project of the Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen , the construction of a train station in Westervoort was also planned. The Movares engineering office was entrusted with the architecture of the building . In May 2011, ProRail began construction of the station on behalf of the Arnhem-Nijmegen Stadsregio, which cost around ten million euros. The official opening took place on December 11, 2011.
After the frequency was increased in the 2012 annual timetable, the number of passengers doubled to 1200 by December 2013, compared to 500 in the previous year.
In March 2016, was Radschnellweg De Liemers opened, the south runs the station in Westervoort and the cities of Arnhem and Zevenaar together.
