Kruidvat is a Dutch retail, pharmacy and drugstore chain with its headquarters in Renswoude .

history

The first Kruidvat was opened in 1975 by Ed During and Dick Siebrand. In the 1980s the company expanded, added CDs and inexpensive books to its range and opened numerous branches. In 1992 the first branch was opened in Antwerp , two years later in Kortrijk and in the following years the company gained a foothold in other European countries. The Kruidvat Holding was finally sold to the Hong Kong company AS Watson in August 2002 for 1.3 billion euros . The company had around 24,000 employees at the time.

Companies

Kruidvat specializes in health, beauty products and related market segments for end consumers and is also represented in Belgium. In addition to Kruidvat itself, Kruidvat Holding also includes ICI Paris XL and Trekpleister in the Netherlands and Belgium . The group also holds a 50% stake in Rossmann in Poland , Hungary and the Czech Republic , as well as in Superdrug in the United Kingdom . The main logistic distribution center of Kruidvat is located in Heteren . An online shop is also operated.

Trivia

In 2017, Kruidvat sold a drawing book with a coloring sheet depicting Adolf Hitler , which made it into negative headlines. The publication caused unrest in the social media and triggered a so-called shit storm . The chain of stores then withdrew the book from the market. According to Kruidvat, the image was "overlooked" during several reviews.
