history

Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of houses in Bucholtwelmen that were built around 2500 years ago. The place used to belong to the Duchy of Kleve , most recently the formerly independent municipality was part of the Gahlen office , Dinslaken district to which the old municipality of Hünxe also belonged.

On September 1, 1960, Bucholtwelmen and Bruckhausen became part of the community of Hünxe in the course of the construction of the new oil refinery on the site of the former military training area.

Infrastructure

The contrast between nature reserves and commercial areas couldn't be greater than in this small town on the Lippe. In Bucholtwelmen there is the largest above-ground product tank farm in Germany with a total capacity of 868,000 m³ in 52 tanks that does not belong to a refinery. The refinery , which was closed in 1985, made way for various modern commercial operations west of the tank farm, which settled in the Bucholtwelmen industrial and commercial park.

The village is connected to the local transport network by bus routes 75, 80 and the Hünxe citizen bus operated by the Niederrhein transport association.

There is a gym and a sports field in the Waldheidesiedlung as well as a riding hall and a riding arena. The headquarters of the rescue dog squadron is located in the Tester Mountains (the highest point is the 63 m high Ochsenberg). The nature reserve Speller Heide with the up to 28 m high rabbit mountains and the wet meadows Bucholter Bruch are well-known local recreation areas . There is a model airfield southwest of the Testerberge .
