Duisburg-Hochfeld Süd is an extensive railway facility on the southern border of the Duisburg district of Hochfeld , which has linked several important railway lines. In addition, the connecting routes to Duisburg Central Station and various industrial connections converge here .

The Duisburg-Hochfeld Süd operating point consists of several operating points, a stop , a branch point and the freight station , which is divided into the station parts of the front station and port station (the cultural port ).

history

Reception building and tram stop on Wanheimer Strasse (before 1927)

On August 23, 1866, the section from Hochfeld to Essen RhE of the Osterath – Dortmund Süd railway line of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (RhE) was put into operation. At the same time the train station for the Rheinhausen train went into operation.

On September 1, 1866, the Hochfeld stop (RhE) was opened for passenger traffic.

Hochfeld became the central hub station three important railway lines in the RhE which Osterath-Dortmund Süd railway , the Troisdorf-Mülheim-Speldorf railway and the railway line Duisburg-Quakenbrück that have been associated with numerous short trips to or from Hochfeld.

After the nationalization of the private railway companies, the Prussian State Railways built additional connecting lines, and Duisburg Hochfeld-Süd became one of the starting points for a freight bypass to Oberhausen West .

service

In local rail passenger transport , the stop is now only served by the regional train lines RB 33 “ Rhein-Niers-Bahn ” and RB 35 “ Emscher-Niederrhein-Bahn ” at approximately half-hourly intervals. The regional express RE 42 Niers-Haard-Express and the regional train RB 31 “Der Niederrheiner” pass through the stop without stopping.

investment

To the east, the former "Rhenish Ruhr area line" connects to the Vorbahnhof. This can only be used as far as the Mülheim-Speldorf train station and is mostly used as a connection to the Mülheim port.

The freight line to Oberhausen West and the rail line to Duisburg-Wedau , on the other hand, continue to be highly frequented and connect the Lower Rhine on the left bank of the Rhine with the Rhine.

Towards the west, the junction connects directly to the forecourt. These are operationally connected by a so-called minus route, on which there is actually no free route , but this is operationally handled for journeys between the operating locations.

The junction follows the route to Rheinhausen , on which the Du-Hochfeld Süd stop is between the junction and the Rhine bridge .

The freight train route to Duisburg main station is closed. The remaining track is only used by moderate freight traffic and was frequented by the regional train RB 37 to Duisburg-Entenfang until December 2019.

The Cöln-Minden freight line via Hochfeld Nord along the Boxbarttrasse to Duisburg Hauptbahnhof has been closed since December 31, 1993 from Duisburg-Hochfeld Nord to Duisburg Hauptbahnhof and has largely disappeared from the cityscape. In part, cycle paths were laid out on the former route, but parts of the route were also used to expand Wörthstrasse as a high-field bypass road.

Only the Rheinische Hochfeldbahn, which runs directly on the banks of the Rhine to the former Du-Hochfeld Nord station, is still in operation. In 2015, the Arcelor / Mittal connection (formerly Niederrheinische Hütte ) was shut down after wire rod production was relocated to Duisburg-Ruhrort . The route is operated by duisport AG .

To the south, the railway line from Duisburg-Wanheim joins the Hafenbahnhof station section. Connected there include the steelworks ( Thyssen , Krupp , Mannesmann )

Signal boxes

The Duisburg Hochfeld Süd train station is locally no longer manned. The old electromechanical interlockings were taken out of service in December 2006 when the new electronic interlocking in Duisburg-Wedau went into operation. The locally responsible dispatcher Wanheimer Bahn operates the parking area from the Duisburg operations center in Hansastraße.

The branch point is operated by the locally responsible dispatcher at Duisburg Hauptbahnhof. This also controls the operations center from the operations center.

Trivia

The " Pulp Event-Schloss " has been located in the former station building of the station, which had been empty for a long time .
