The Emscher-Niederrhein-Bahn ( RB 35 ) is an hourly regional train line in North Rhine-Westphalia belonging to the Niederrhein network . It connects Gelsenkirchen on the Emscher via Duisburg with Mönchengladbach in the Lower Rhine region .
history
Until 2016, the RB 35 line was called Der Weseler and ran between Wesel and Duisburg . During rush hour, the line was extended to Düsseldorf and once a day to Cologne and from Wesel to Emmerich . The line was an amplifier for the Rhein-Express on its entire route . From 2016, the train route was extended beyond Duisburg to Mönchengladbach , which strengthened the northern route of the Rhein-Niers-Bahn . To change the frequency of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in December 2019, the line was relocated from Oberhausen from Wesel to Gelsenkirchen. The new Wupper-Lippe-Express (RE 49) line from Wesel to Wuppertal has since replaced the line section between Oberhausen and Wesel that was no longer available.
offer
The line only runs Monday to Friday between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Together with the Niers-Haard-Express (RE 42) and the Rhein-Niers-Bahn (RB 33), a service of three trains per hour is run on the Duisburg - Mönchengladbach section. Between Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen, the timetable frequency, in addition to the Rhein-Emscher-Bahn (RB 32), which stops at all intermediate stations , is increased from an hourly cycle (previously served by S 2 ) to a half-hourly cycle. In Gelsenkirchen there is a direct connection to the Rhein-Haard-Express (RE 2) and Niers-Haard-Express (RB 42) lines in the direction of Münster . However, this is not the same platform in the main train station there .
operator
The line is operated by Abellio Rail NRW . Until 2016 the operator was the DB Regio NRW .
vehicles
Vehicles of the Stadler Flirt 3 type are used on the line . Abellio acquired a total of 21 railcars of this type for the RE 19 , RE 19a and RB 35 lines .
For the maintenance of the vehicles, the operator has a workshop in the immediate vicinity of Duisburg Central Station .
Class 425/426 multiple units were used between Wesel and Duisburg until 2016, and the repeater trains between Emmerich and Düsseldorf and Cologne also operated with n-type cars .
Train run
The regional train runs on the following railway lines:
- Railway line Dortmund – Duisburg from Gelsenkirchen to Duisburg
- Duisburg-Ruhrort – Mönchengladbach railway line over the entire length
