Bronius Vyšniauskas

Bronius Vyšniauskas ( Russian Бро́нюс Вишня́ускас ; born May 1, 1923 in Gelnai in the district of Kėdainiai ; † June 27, 2015 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian - Soviet sculptor and university teacher .

Life

Vyšniauskas studied at the Institute for Applied and Decorative Arts in Kaunas with a degree in 1947 and then took part in exhibitions. In 1948 he became a lecturer at the Vilnius Art Institute, which in 1951 became the Vilnius State Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR . In 1978 he was appointed professor.

Vyšniauskas made portrait busts of Kazimieras Būga and others. For the rebuilt Green Bridge in Vilnius from the Old Town to Šnipiškės , he and his older colleague Napoleonas Petrulis created the Construction and Industry group in 1952 , which in 2015 together with the other three sculptures Auf Friedenswacht by Bronius Pundzius , Agriculture by Bernardas Bučas and Petras Vaivada and Student Youth of Juozas Mikėnas was removed from the bridge as symbols of Soviet rule in the style of Socialist Realism . Vyšniauska's bust of Pushkin (1955) is in the park next to the Pushkin Literature Museum in Vilnius. With Petrulis he designed the small sculptures A Moment of Peace (1957) and Mother with Child (1965). In 1959 he made the sculptures Ratnyčėlė and Motherhood on behalf of Druskininkai .

In 1972 Vyšniauskas designed sculptures and reliefs for the memorial of the liberation of Kryžkalnis ( Raseiniai Rajongemeinde ) by the Red Army , which has not been preserved. The group The Four Communists ( Rapolas Čarnas , Kazys Giedrys , Juozas Greifenbergeris , Karolis Požėla ) he created again together with Petrulis in 1973 for installation in Kaunas.
