Rapolas Čarnas

Rapolas Čarnas (born November 13, 1900 in Kaunas ; † December 27, 1926 there ) was a Lithuanian communist youth functionary and politician .

Life

Čarnas had been a member of the Communist Youth Association since 1920, and later also a member of its Central Committee. He was one of the leaders of the Communist Party of Lithuania and illegally active for it. After the Smetonas military coup on December 17, 1926, Čarnas was arrested and shot along with three other leading Lithuanian communists - Kazys Giedrys , Juozas Greifenbergeris and Karolis Požėla .

Honors

A group of sculptures by Bronius Vyšniauskas and Napoleonas Petrulis erected in Kaunas in the 1970s in honor of the four communists has since been removed and is now in Grutas Park .
