The Wickrath Bahnhof in Mönchengladbach District Wickrath is located on the Aachen-Mönchengladbach railway . It belongs to station category 6 and is served every hour by the Rhein-Niers-Bahn between Essen main station and Aachen main station.

history

Two shape signals on the sidings in the northern part of the station. Behind it the dispatcher interlocking Wf on Jahnstrasse.

In August 1846 the Prussian government granted the Aachen-Neuss-Düsseldorfer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft a concession to build a line from Aachen via Gladbach to Düsseldorf . For the construction of a train station in Wickrath, a large area of arable land was acquired by the then resident family of Friedrich Wilhelm Koch. In the fall of 1851, the development of the site began. The line was opened on 11 November 1852 the reception building of the station Wickrath was completed in the fall of 1853 and 1863 extended. It contained a waiting room and a ticket office. As early as 1852, the leasing of a restaurant was advertised, the existence of which is considered certain in 1880.

The former tracks and buildings for loading goods were dismantled at the beginning of the 2000s, and in their place there is now a Norma supermarket. In the direction of Rheydt, three sidings from the station were initially preserved. The station was equipped with form signals until the end of 2007 , the operation was controlled by the mechanical signal boxes Wf and Ws . Since the connection of the section to the ESTW Grevenbroich, the interlockings are out of order and the form signals have been replaced by Ks signals . Since all switches from the station were also removed, it has been a stopping point since then . Only a section of a siding at the northern end of the station remained as a stump track , this now belongs to the station part Rheydt Gbf of the Rheydt main station.

The station used to have an intermediate platform for trains to Aachen, which had to be monitored, as there was only one level access from the house platform via platform 1. In addition, for the same reason, no train traffic was permitted on the track in the direction of Mönchengladbach while a train to Aachen was stopped. When a new outer platform went into operation on October 27, 2011, the intermediate platform was put out of service and the level crossing was blocked by a fence. The intermediate platform was dismantled at the beginning of 2012.

The reception building of the former Wickrath train station has been preserved, but is no longer used as such. In 2015 the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) bought the reception building. It was to be converted into an education and meeting place for three million euros (partly funding). Until 2018, the AWO sold the building to a private investor without refurbishment, but who lacks an idea for further use.

Todays situation

At the beginning of 2008, plans by the VRR , Deutsche Bahn and the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Transport were announced to rename the stop. Its new name will be Mönchengladbach-Wickrath . The Wickrath stop has two outside platforms , one of which is a house platform. It is served by the regional train RB 33:

In addition, four regional express trains stop Monday through Friday mornings outside the regular schedule to Düsseldorf and four trains from Düsseldorf in the afternoon in Wickrath.

As part of the planned RRX , which would also stop in Wickrath if necessary, the station underwent extensive modernization in summer 2018: the main platform was raised for barrier-free boarding. The outer platform has been lengthened and has a second access.
